Iraqi Interior Ministry dismisses rumors of Grand Ayatollah Sistani's injury

The Counter-Rumors Center of Iraq’s Interior Ministry has categorically denied recent social media claims alleging that Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, the country’s top Shia cleric, had been injured.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Counter-Rumors Center of Iraq’s Interior Ministry has categorically denied recent social media claims alleging that Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, the country’s top Shia cleric, had been injured.

According to IQNA, in a statement released on Sunday, the center emphasized that the reports, which claimed damage to the residence of the revered cleric, were entirely unfounded and part of a broader effort to mislead public opinion.

“These false claims are part of a disinformation campaign aimed at provoking unrest,” the statement read, as cited by al-Furat News.

The Interior Ministry also noted that it is actively continuing its public outreach initiatives in Najaf Governorate during the Eid al-Ghadir festivities, engaging with pilgrims and raising awareness about the dangers of rumor propagation.

As part of its expanded media strategy, the ministry has established a dedicated unit to track and counteract the spread of false information using verified and credible intelligence sources.

Eid al-Ghadir, a significant occasion for Shia Muslims worldwide, was observed across Iraq on Sunday with large gatherings in the holy city of Najaf.
